Te Mātāpuna o te Wai, Te Ahi Tāmou

Te Mātāpuna o te Wai, Te Ahi Tāmou refers to the health and wellbeing of lakes, waterways, geothermal resources, and the surrounding environment and how this is reflected and nourishes the health and wellbeing of the people.

The project is located on the Western shores of Lake Taupō the project’s core objectives are to:

  • provide strategic leadership on the sustainable and integrated management of the catchment;

The outcomes include achieving positive outcomes for the catchment, while at the same time forging and strengthening partnerships between local government, Ngāti Tūwharetoa, and local communities. This requires a high level of intentionality and purpose across all participant groups alongside a unified, collaborative, and participative approach to its work – kotahitanga.

  • Develop a shared understanding of issues;

  • Understand the importance of working together to identify and implement solutions;

  • See difference and diversity in thought, ideas, and process as an opportunity to learn and build understanding and strength;
